When experiencing grief due to the death of a significant person in their lives, people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities can greatly benefit from support that helps them cope with their loss.
The Arc of Oklahoma’s grief support program also provides support to individuals preparing for end-of-life, when staff terminates employment or when long-term roommates pass away or move. Through individual and group sessions, individuals learn to:
- Understand their feelings.
- Cope with the many emotions they experience after loss.
- Communicate their feelings in an appropriate manner for their level of understanding.
